The Catholic Archdiocese of Trichur, from its beginning in 1887, has done remarkable and useful work in health care, education, social welfare and community development in central Kerala. The wide presence of the Church has brought a favorable change in the educational, socioeconomic, cultural and health indicators of the area. As of 2006, the catholic community of Trichur provides its services to the afflicted and the ailing regardless of caste, creed or religion in the form of 5 hospitals, 34 dispensaries, 2 counselling centers, 5 medical training centers which include a medical college and 11 care or rehabilitation centers for individuals who live with incurable diseases, AIDS or leprosy, physical or mental handicaps or disabilities, drug-alcohol addiction, etc.

As one of the missions of healing of the Archdiocese, on 17th December 1951, a small dispensary was commenced at Thrissur. Due to the self-sacrifice, extraordinary commitment and most importantly divine providence, the small dispensary has now expanded into Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Institute with 1450 bedded multi specialty Hospital with medical education facilities like Medical College, College of Nursing, School of Nursing and variety of allied health science courses.
